Production of natural grass straws

The grass is found in almost every tropical area in the world. Scientific name (Lepironia articulata), species of Articulata, and genus is the Lepironia Sedge. It has a short strong outer layer that is almost 8 mm wide and not more than 1.5 m high. Its ribs are horizontal contain 3-4 sheaths. Gie’s flowers in the top are about 1 cm square. It is an aquatic plant found near water sources. These grasses are perfect for use as a straw instead of the plastics ones. They are 100 percent organic and natural. We can save the world from plastic pollution if we use them like straw.

How to produce natural green grass straws ?

The production process of these grass straws is so simple and easy. The grass can be grown and harvested easily. You just have to follow several steps to turn the natural grass into a useful straw. You don’t have to set up a big industry for the production. Even, no big instruments are required for the production of these straws. The 8 steps are discussed shortly below:

#1 Choosing the right grass

At fast, the selection of the grass is done. The proper selection of the grass size and shape is very important for the perfect straw. Select the grass of which stem is strong and hard with a tube diameter of 5 to 8 mm. Also have to be careful that no fungus and alum burn is present in these. Perfect production requires a perfect selection of raw materials. Now, collect this perfectly qualified stalk from the field. Now, they are ready for the next steps.

#2 Cleaning the collected grass

After collecting these raw materials, now they are sent to the factory for further processes, including cleaning of the grass by saline or ozone or water disinfection. For the cleaning and sterilizing, removal of the sheath at the base adhesive grass eagle is necessary. The grass may contain many microorganisms and small aquatic plants in its outer part. Then it is cleaned to make a perfect hollow tube intestine. High meticulousness is a must in that step. This stage finishes when fresh products are produced. These products are then kept and prepared for further steps for some hour.

#5 Water wash

The new products from step four are needed to be washed in water in a sterile washing system. This washing is very important for the removal of impurities, wastages, unnecessary compounds, and most importantly microorganisms. Some impurities are very harmful to our bodies. These microorganisms can cause some instant and serious diseases to us. Like, diarrhea, cholera, and food poisoning, etc. so, this step is one of the most important steps among all.

#6 Dry the product

After removing the harmful components finished drying is needed for the absolute removal of limited surface disinfection caused by yeasts and molds. For this process, a large capacity indoor drying system is used. This step requires a little bit of time. We can also do sun drying, by keeping the straws in the sunlight for two or three days. But for better results and safety the indoor drying system is best. Here the temperature is controlled between 50 to 80 degrees Celsius. This step also helps the heat-treated product to increase its shelf life naturally.

#7 Packaging

The products are almost ready to use now. Follow the production standards in packaging the products. Before that, manual inspection is needed to avoid defective products. Then classify and remove the abnormal and defective products then package the perfect products. The packaging must be good to avoid further contamination. As the straws will be used for drinking, safety should be our fast priority.

#8 Storage

Now the packaged product should be stored in a cool place, where the atmosphere is normal and sterile. Here damp and wet places must be avoided. Wet and damp weather can affect the product quality.
